Cheshire Legend Helps with Junior Coaching.
DP World Tour player David Horsey has returned to his golfing roots, hosting his annual Styal Junior Open at the club where he first honed his skills as a youngster.
A Day to Remember
Mark Johnson, Styal and Cheshire coach, praised David’s commitment to junior golf:
“He has set up and hosted the David Horsey Styal Junior Open for many years. This year’s event was an amazing day with superb prizes, trophies, and the winner even won a game with David.
“At the conclusion of play, David held a short game clinic to share his tips with all the competitors.”
Coaching the Future Stars
David’s involvement extends beyond the Junior Open. He has contributed to two coaching sessions with the Cheshire U12 group as part of the Cheshire County Development Programme.
“David has a simple and effective short-game strategy,” Johnson explained. “It’s a fantastic approach for the multiple greenside shots needed, with minimal changes. Every golfer would benefit from following his strategy.”
The Development Programme, aimed at boys aged 12 and under, is the first stage of the county’s golf experience. This year’s programme included additional input from Jordan Massey, a putting specialist, and recruitment is now open for the 2024/2025 season.
Giving Back
Johnson added:
“It’s been a pleasure to host David for a second year with the Development Squad. He’s passionate about putting something back into junior golf, especially at his home course at Styal. It’s always a fun session and inspiring for the kids to hear first-hand from a Tour winner.”
