Andrew Dickson’s Hole in One at Bolton Golf Club
FORMER Bolton Golf Club captain Dr Andrew Dickson MBE has played golf all over the world for many years but getting a hole in one has always eluded him.
But his long wait finally ended when playing the Wednesday Bolton Hospice Golf Competition at his home club recently.
His ace came on the par-three 165-yard fourth hole to set up suitable celebrations on the course and at the 19th hole.
Andrew said: “The wind was so strong and blowing into our faces so I thought about advice from our professional Matt Galley. He said ‘when it’s breezy take it easy’ so I took a much bigger club than usual, a three wood and went down the shaft and feathered it – one bounce and in it went!”
Every Wednesday about 30 members from Bolton Golf Club all pay a small fee, over and above their membership, to play in a friendly competition and all the fees go to Bolton Hospice, which like many other hospices in the country, is in desperate need of more funding.
Last year the group presented a cheque to the Hospice for £2,500, which was gratefully received.
