Another 4 Wheelchairs Presented at Helsby Golf Club
HELSBY Golf Club recently hosted the 42nd Powered Wheelchair Classic, and in memory of the late Bert Dyson, who was one of the founder members of the Appeal in 1983. His inspirational and tireless work led to the annual event being renamed the Bert Dyson Classic.
Ninety golfers played in a shotgun start on the fantastically prepared course, and the winners on the day were the team of Charlie Fletcher, Alan Hunt, Steve Morris, and Eddie Cotterill.
Runners-up were Dennis Dean, Kieran McCabe, John Maddock, and Jimmy Carter, and in third place were Martin Edmunds, Carl Oughterson, Mike Hayes, and Neil Hayes.
Four Young Lives Changed With New Powered Wheelchairs
Following the golf, everyone enjoyed a great carvery and then the highlight of the day was the presentation of four powered wheelchairs to:
Eve Bennett, 11, from Heswall; Freya Tipton, 10, from Warrington; Isabella Gray, 17, from Liverpool; and 14-year-old Kelsi Mae Kehoe, from Elton.
They were accompanied by their families on the night and are looking forward very much to the independence that their new wheelchairs will bring.
A bumper raffle was held, followed by an auction, and an amazing £9,000 was raised, which will in turn help fund more chairs for youngsters in the future.
Appeal secretary, Penny Ainsworth, said:
“Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who helped this very worthy cause on the day – golfers, sponsors, club catering and bar staff, our pro Josh Hall and everyone else who donated prizes. It was a fabulous day and thank you very much.”
These additional four wheelchairs brings the total number of chairs donated over the years to 436.
