Linzi Webster Leads 135km Row for Support Dogs in Bramhall Fundraiser
BRAMHALL Golf Club’s lady captain Linzi Webster and her friends smashed their target of rowing 120km in 12 hours to mark the golf club’s 120th year anniversary.
The ladies rowed in a ’tag team’ format and completed the 120km challenge in just over 10 hours to add to the coffers of the Support Dogs charity.
Linzi said: “The rowing challenge was conceived as a fundraiser for my Lady Captain’s Charity. I am not sure why I chose this challenge exactly, as I am definitely not a rower and nor were the members of the team, but maybe that was why … we needed a proper challenge!”
“A rowing machine was set up in the clubhouse, and we started at 7am. We had completed the 120km just after 5pm so then decided to continue rowing until 7pm, which was the 12 hour time frame originally set.
“By that time the clubhouse was buzzing with people, and the atmosphere was amazing. The last two hours flew by, and in the end we rowed 135km.”
“We had a core team of nine, with everyone rowing at least 12km in 2km stints over the day, and several rowing more.
“We also had the occasional guest rower who dropped in for a star kilometre or two here and there!
“A JustGiving page was set up for online donations, and sponsor sheets were in the clubhouse.”
Supporting Support Dogs Charity

“The final total is not quite determined yet but the figure is currently standing at circa £3,500, which is absolutely fantastic and a real testament to the support and goodwill of Bramhall members, family, and friends, and I am overwhelmed by this.
“The charity is Support Dogs, who train dogs specifically for people with Autism, Epilepsy (Seizure Alert) and Disability, allowing them to be able to live as independently as possible.
“These highly trained dogs give individuals the chance to live their best life they can.
“It takes £27,000 to train a dog, which then has a working life of six to eight years before being retired, and the charity relies entirely on voluntary contributions.
“I have worked with this charity before, and when I became lady captain, they were always going to be my choice of charity this year.”
“I would like to give a huge thanks to all my rowers for being so willing and amazing – a really united team. Also to the Bramhall house team, who were very relaxed about their bar becoming a mini-gym for the day and, most importantly, to everyone that so generously sponsored us.”
