Cleveland Golf has unveiled its most advanced cavity back wedge yet with the launch of the CBZ Wedge with Z-Alloy, combining enhanced forgiveness with the feel and feedback of a blade.
This all-new model marks the debut of Cleveland’s proprietary Z-Alloy material in a cavity back design—delivering a performance breakthrough aimed squarely at the everyday golfer seeking more control around the greens.
Developed with insights from players using forgiveness-focused irons, the CBZ Wedge caters to those who want consistency and playability without sacrificing feel.

Z-Alloy: A Material Built for Feel
At the heart of the CBZ Wedge is Z-Alloy, a steel compound developed in-house by Cleveland Golf. It’s designed to be 25% softer than the previous CBX 4 ZipCore models while retaining strength and responsiveness.
Unlike traditional 431 stainless steel—commonly found in game improvement wedges—Z-Alloy delivers a noticeably softer, more responsive feel at impact, offering feedback previously reserved for tour-level blades.
According to Boeing Smith, Ph. D., Senior Research Engineer at Cleveland Golf, Z-Alloy was formulated to outperform every wedge material on the market, offering cavity back players the benefits of a softer, more controlled experience without giving up durability.
Technology-Driven Forgiveness and Spin
Built on the same performance platform as Cleveland’s RTZ Wedge, the CBZ model features a series of refinements aimed at boosting control and consistency.
ZipCore technology repositions the centre of gravity for higher MOI and improved spin control, while UltiZip grooves and HydraZip face tech are tuned by loft to maintain spin in both dry and wet conditions.
A newly designed Gelback TPU insert—now 94% larger—further enhances feel, helping to dampen vibration and maintain responsiveness on off-centre strikes.
Full-Face Design for Creative Shotmaking
For players who like to open the face or struggle with consistent contact, the CBZ Full-Face Wedge option adds hosel-to-toe grooves and an extended high-toe design to promote better spin and stopping power across more creative shots.
To simplify fitting, Cleveland has pre-selected sole grinds by loft, with each grind optimised for forgiveness, turf interaction, and bounce performance.
A leading-edge bounce chamfer also helps the wedge glide cleanly through various turf conditions.
