Husband and Wife Both Hit Hole-in-One on Same Day in Mauritius
HOLES in one are very rare for most golfers of all ages and abilities, but a Cheshire husband and wife may have set a county, national or even world record while on a golfing holiday in Mauritius.
Martyn Elly, a member at Werneth Low, and his wife Linda Moore, a member of Romiley, were enjoying playing in Mauritius, and on the same day, they both hit holes in one!
Martyn said: “This is the first time we have been to the Belle Mare Plage Hotel, which has two golf courses, The Links and The Legend, and we played both courses whilst on holiday.
“We have been to Mauritius several times before but stayed at the Awali Hotel and played their course.
“Linda struck first on the 115-metre long ninth hole on The Links from the red tee using a rescue five wood, and I followed her great example on the 14th from the yellow tee with my eight-iron.
“Our celebrations were somewhat muted as we were shocked by what happened, and we had a beer at the clubhouse bar and then at the bar in our resort.
“We were presented with certificates by the resort to record our aces.
“Linda has had a hole-in-one at Romiley in 2022 on the 11th hole.
“This is my first ever ace, and we were just playing as a pair.”
An MCB Seniors tournament was taking place the same week on The Legend Course, and Martyn and Linda watched some of the action.
“I had my picture taken with Ian Woosnam, who was in our resort with a lot of other senior pros.
“It proved an incredible golfing holiday we will never forget or be allowed to forget!”
