Dave Ends His Long Ace Wait
Stockport Golf Club member Dave Storey was celebrating long and hard with fellow members and his son after at last getting his first-ever hole-in-one after 28 years of trying.
Dave said: “My ace was on the 16th, which is 160 yards long.
There was a strong side wind and I hit my six-iron sweetly. It took three bounces and rolled into the hole.
The competition was the father and son better ball, so it made it extra special to have my first hole-in-one playing with my son Jamie, and we finished with 42 points to finish in second place.
Our playing partners were previous captain Richard Parker and his son Will.”
Dave has been playing golf for 28 years now, 12 of them at Houldsworth and 16 years at Stockport.
“I joined Stockport after Jamie became the assistant professional there under Mike Peel and I am so proud that he is now head professional.
His best statement to me was when I had a lesson with him.
He said: ‘Dad, you just don’t listen.’
He then laughed and said he’d been waiting 34 years to say that to me after all the times we say it to our kids when they are growing up.
We had a great celebration with plenty of whisky on the bar to celebrate the ace.”
