Trevor Foster Remembered as One of England’s Greatest Senior Golfers
ONE of England’s greatest senior team golfers has died at the age of 64, England Golf has announced.
Lancashire’s Trevor Foster passed away in late December, leaving behind his wife Debbie, son Ryan, daughter Nikki, and their three much-loved grandchildren.
Tributes from all over the world have flooded in to Trevor’s friends and family, recognising a much-loved character whose larger-than-life persona will be talked about and remembered for many years to come.
A Remarkable Golfing Career
Trevor’s golfing attributes included representing the Red Rose county 111 times between 1986 and 2018, and being county champion in 1987 and 1990.
In 1988, Trevor was also top of The Open leaderboard after 12 holes at Royal Lytham & St Annes, leading the likes of world superstars Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, and Fred Couples.
Trevor will be best known for his prowess as a senior golfer (55+). He represented England every year since 2016 and also represented Europe in the 2022 Concession Cup against USA at Valderrama, being one of just two European players to win in the singles on the final day of the competition.
A Fierce Competitor and Champion
Trevor was a fierce competitor, and his desire to win was formidable. He won many titles, including the Irish Senior Men’s Championship in 2018 and the English Senior Men’s Championship at Berkhamsted in 2022.
His greatest achievement was winning the British Senior Men’s Championship at Porthcawl in 2018, which included a spectacular 63 (-9) in the first round.
He also won the Silver Medal for the leading amateur at The Senior Open in 2021 at Sunningdale and a bronze medal in the 2022 event at Gleneagles.
A True Gentleman of the Game
Trevor was a great communicator, and his stories will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew him. He once played with Bernhard Langer in the Senior Open practice round, just so he could tell him about breaking Langer’s course record around Porthcawl.
Trevor was the life and soul of any environment he found himself in and was a true gentleman and a total professional in the game he loved so much.
He was the kindest, most generous person, always willing to share his time and knowledge with anyone who reached out to him. He was also a loving father and doting grandfather.
A Heartfelt Tribute
Our hearts go out to his family, especially his wife Debbie, who was Trevor’s rock, walking thousands of miles as part of ‘Team Foster’. Together, they were a formidable team, both much-loved and feared at the same time.
As an England player, Trevor was everything a captain could ask for. The moment he put on the England shirt, he became totally focused, giving everything to the game and its success.
He was a stalwart of the England Seniors Team and will be remembered for all the right reasons: sportsmanship, camaraderie, friendship, and as a wonderful person who will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.
