Garry Rolls Back the Years at Didsbury
FORMER European Tour player Garry Houston rolled back the years when he won the PGA North Manchester Open for the second time – 22 years after his first win!
The Welshman fired a two-round total of just 129 to beat Ormskirk’s David Shacklady by one at Didsbury. He had won the inaugural event at Mottram Hall in 2002.
Carden Park-attached Houston had trailed Davenport’s Jamie Howarth, who shot a stunning round of 62 in round one, but made a solid par on the final hole to pip Shacklady by one and Ian Campbell (Hadden Hill) and Howarth by three.
Didsbury Golf Club were proud to be chosen to host the prestigious two-day event which sees top professionals from across the region and other parts of the UK take part in the competition that boasted a prize pot of £20,000.
It had taken a lot of effort from the Didsbury staff – greens, administration and hospitality – to prepare for the event along with volunteers on the day helping with spotting etc and their efforts drew deserved praise from PGA players and officials.
The winner’s trophy was presented to Houston by PGA North captain Neil Reeves and Didsbury captain David Sheppard.
Both of them gave well-deserved thanks and compliments to all at Didsbury Golf Club, both on and off the course, for the outstanding efforts made to make this an excellent competition.
