Gateway to Wales Mixed Golf Festival Continues to Attract Golfers
Gateway to Wales Golf held their fourth Mixed Golf Festival, with 140 golfers participating in a high-scoring tournament across Holywell, Mold, and Padeswood & Buckley golf clubs.
The event, sponsored by the Holiday Inn A55 Chester West Hotel, has become a popular mixed 4BBB format tournament for ladies and gentlemen alike, drawing participants from across the UK. Many attendees make bookings year after year.
The three-day aggregate prize of £150 and the title of The Gateway to Wales Mixed Golf Festival 4BBB champions went to Paul Spence and Deb Hannam Walpole from Bedale Golf Club, Yorkshire, with 124 points.
Runners-up David and Linda Smith (Nelson) finished just one point behind on 123.
Paul and Deb scored 37 points at Holywell, 43 at Mold, and 44 at Padeswood & Buckley.
David and Linda recorded 41 points at Holywell, 45 at Mold, and 37 at Padeswood & Buckley.
Daily Competition Winners
At Holywell, Clive Washburn and Catherine Devereux (Oak Royal) claimed victory with 46 points.
Second place went to Simon Platt (Market Drayton) and Wendy Humphrey (Onneley) with 43 points, while Paul Jordan (Warren) and Anne Norman (Exeter) secured third, also with 43 points.
At Mold, David and Linda Smith took the top spot with 45 points.
Paul Spence and Deb Hannam followed in second place with 43 points, while Neil Back and Janet Knowles (Erlestoke) also finished third with 43 points.
Paul Spence and Deb Hannam excelled at Padeswood & Buckley to secure first place again.
Simon and Jennifer Ellis (Wath) came second with 43 points, and Richard and Sandra Powis (Penn) were third with 42 points.
Positive Community Impact
Jennifer Smith, general manager of the Holiday Inn A55 West, expressed her delight in sponsoring the event:
“We are delighted to be involved with sponsoring this highly successful event, which is a major boost to tourism in the area.”
This sentiment was echoed by Richard Jones of Flintshire County Council Leisure & Tourism, which has supported Gateway to Wales Golf since its inception.
Joyce Speed, of Gateway to Wales Golf and a member at Old Padeswood, shared her gratitude:
“Whilst the weather was changeable, it appeared not to detract from the competitors’ enjoyment of the three courses.
“It was a very busy three days for us, and we would like to thank all the green staff and member volunteers of the participating golf clubs who ensured there was a warm welcome to all visiting competitors.”
Next Year’s Festival
The next Mixed Golf Festival will take place from June 29 to July 1 at Northop, Old Padeswood, and Hawarden golf clubs.
