Golf Foundation and BMW PGA Championship Unite to Support Schools
The Golf Foundation BMW PGA Championship partnership is taking centre stage this week, as the charity assumes the role of Official Charity for the tournament at Wentworth Club for the first time.
Golf Foundation President Nick Dougherty helped launch the week by delivering golf equipment to a local school before welcoming the pupils to Wentworth to experience the event first-hand.
Golf Foundation Named Official Charity of BMW PGA Championship
The collaboration builds on the success of the Eagles for Education initiative introduced in 2024, where every eagle recorded saw BMW donate £1,000 to the Golf Foundation.
That year, 89 eagles were made – including Billy Horschel’s winning eagle – raising an impressive £89,000.
This funding brought the Golf Foundation’s Unleash Your Drive in Schools programme to classrooms across the country, giving children the chance to experience golf while developing vital life skills.
Eagles for Education Delivers Lasting Impact
One such school, Winkfield St Mary’s in Bracknell, has seen the benefits first-hand. PE teacher Emily Fazey explained:
“It’s helped to show the kids that patience and resilience can make a difference in sport and beyond. We’re starting an after-school golf club next week, that’s how much the kids have taken to it.”
This year, alongside Eagles for Education, the Golf Foundation will raise further funds through long putt, chipping, and simulator challenges in the Spectator Village at Wentworth.
Unleash Your Drive: Building Mental Toughness in Schools
The Unleash Your Drive in Schools programme provides six weeks of golf alongside lessons in mental toughness – equipping young people with resilience skills that extend beyond the course.
For every £10 raised at the BMW PGA Championship, another student gains access to the initiative.
Early results show a 20% increase in mental toughness understanding among children who took part.
With one in five young people facing probable mental health challenges since Covid, the programme is helping to tackle a critical issue by building confidence, resilience, and wellbeing through golf.
