Helsby Golf Club Powered Wheelchair Appeal Enjoys Another MEGA Fundraising Day!
Helsby Golf Club recently hosted their 22nd Merseyside Entertainers Golfing Association (MEGA) Day.
After everyone had enjoyed a fine afternoon of golf, the highlight of the day was the presentation of two powered wheelchairs to brothers Jake and Max Noscoe from Widnes.
Jake, 18, attends Riverside College, and Max, 13, is at Chestnut Lodge in Widnes.
The brothers, accompanied on the night by their mum Lisa and dad John, are both very much looking forward to the independence their new wheelchairs will provide.
Winners of the golf competition on the day were captain Mike Branigan, Keith Ainsworth, John McLaren, and Bernie Birch.
They were presented with their prizes by Helsby president Barbara Leigh.
Also in attendance were lady captain Pauline Branigan and former Widnes and Warrington rugby league player Reggie Bowden.
The MEGA players had their own individual competition for the Tony Brutus Trophy, donated by longstanding supporters the O’Neill family.
This year’s winner was Ian Christie.
Helsby’s Kathryn Hoather said: “In the evening, the clubhouse was packed with members and supporters who enjoyed the great entertainment provided by the MEGA stars.
“It was a fantastic evening thoroughly enjoyed by everyone!
“Thanks go to all our supporters, especially to David Sydall of Optimum Costs Consultants, who sponsored the prizes.
“Also, a big thanks to the MEGA team, and we raised a fantastic £3,500 for the Appeal.
“This brings the total number of wheelchairs presented by the Appeal to 431.”
