Chris Pierce wins Flintshire County Championship four years running
Holywell member Chris Pierce has become the first-ever golfer to win the UFGC Flintshire County Scratch Golf Championship four years on the trot.
Plus-three handicapper Pierce even managed to recover from a two-shot penalty for playing the wrong ball to win by four shots at Mold Golf Club.
Fourth consecutive title at Mold
The 28-year-old accountant fired rounds of 71 and 64 to beat home player Nick Tomlinson. His previous wins in the event were at Holywell, Hawarden and Rhuddlan.
“I was a junior member at Mold for three or four years, so I knew the course well, which is always a help.
“I feel proud to be the first person to win four years consecutively. It’s an event I enjoy playing in, but I felt under more pressure this year as I knew everyone was wanting to beat me,” said the left hander, from Flint.
“I was two behind after the first round so I knew I had to up my game for the afternoon. I didn’t play that much better for the 64, it was just that a few more putts dropped.
“I was just focused on hitting fairways and greens.”
I think next year’s event will be back at Holywell, so I will definitely be aiming to make it five on the bounce back at my home course.
