La Cala Resort Launches New 9-Hole Short Course on the Costa del Sol
La Cala Resort in southern Spain is expanding its renowned golf offering with the launch of a brand-new 9-hole par-3 short course, officially opening Friday, July 4, 2025.
The addition caters to growing demand for faster and more flexible golf experiences while maintaining the high quality and scenic appeal the resort is known for.
Located adjacent to La Cala’s Golf Academy and driving range, the La Cala Short Course replaces the previous 6-hole loop and has been fully redesigned to deliver an engaging, time-efficient round suitable for golfers of all levels.
Designed for Modern Golfers and Short-Game Specialists
The new layout features elevated tees, sweeping views of the Mediterranean, and natural integration with the undulating terrain of Mijas, Spain.
It’s aimed at families, juniors, beginners, and even advanced players looking to sharpen their wedge play and short-game skills.
Sean Corte-Real, General Manager of La Cala Resort, said:
“Our vision has been to create a course that’s accessible, fun, and designed to reflect how people are engaging with golf today.”
The course offers a varied mix of hole lengths and angles, challenging players’ creativity while keeping the pace of play quick and enjoyable.
A New Era for Golf on the Costa del Sol

The opening of the short course comes at a time when leading golf resorts across Europe and North America are embracing shorter formats to attract a wider range of players.
At La Cala, the new layout complements the resort’s three 18-hole championship courses — Campo America, Campo Asia, and Campo Europa — all set within the dramatic Andalusian landscape.
The Short Course also marks phase one of a broader upgrade to the La Cala Golf Academy, which is being transformed into a dedicated “Golf Hub.” The second phase is scheduled for completion in 2026.
Enhancing Golf Education and Resort Experience
With its location near the Golf Academy, the new short course is ideal for on-course coaching, warm-up rounds, and short-game clinics.
It expands La Cala’s teaching capabilities while offering guests a new, approachable way to enjoy the game.
Off the course, visitors to La Cala can enjoy:
- A 4-star hotel and spa
- Full fitness facilities
- Several dining venues
- Proximity to Costa del Sol beaches and attractions
The resort has once again been nominated for Spain’s Best Golf Hotel at the 2025 World Golf Awards, underscoring its reputation for exceptional golf holidays in Spain.
“We believe golf should be inclusive, adaptable, and most of all, enjoyable,” added Corte-Real. “This new course embodies those values.”
