An octogenarian lady member at Leigh Golf Club has hit her first-ever hole-in-one at the age of 82.
Christine Johnson achieved the ace on a recent away weekend at Hawkstone Park Golf Club in Shropshire.
It came on the par-three ninth hole on the Championship Course with her trusty driver.
“I didn’t actually see it go in, but my playing partners did. We all shared high fives when we realised it was in the hole,” said the 32-handicapper, who has played as low as 21.
Christine, who has been a member at Leigh for 35 years, ran the ladies’ Bronze team for six years.
She added: “When I was told the ball had gone in I was amazed, having waited my whole golfing career for this to happen.
“I bought the drinks for everyone four days later at our Lady Captain’s Day back at Leigh. I have had lots of members passing on their congratulations, and it was really special – especially as I am pretty sure I was the oldest golfer on our weekend trip away.”
Christine, from Croft, Warrington, was a secretary/receptionist as well as a mum before she retired.
She still tries to play twice a week, having been encouraged to play originally by her husband, David.
Her other hobbies include travelling abroad, reading, jigsaws, and spending time with her grandchildren.
“Golf is great for ladies. It can be played even as an octogenarian. It keeps one fit and gives one companionship with other ladies.
The competitive side of golf helps keep the mind active as well as the body too.”
