Incredible Round by 80-Year-Old Golfer at Romiley Sparks Celebration
ROMILEY member Janet Godfrey has had reason for a double celebration.
Not only has she recently turned 80, but she has also just played the round of her life in a club competition at her home course.
The 36.7 handicapper, who has been a member of Romiley Golf Club for 36 years, shot a phenomenal 49 Stableford points to win the Thursday ladies competition by a 12-point margin.
Janet, who was playing alongside long-time friend Kerry Brown, is convinced she found emotional inspiration early in the round.

“When I approached the third green, there were two white feathers next to each other, and I picked them up and put one in each pocket to visualise my late husband Paul and late son Mark looking down on me,” she explained.
“I still can’t believe what then happened, as I have never played that well.”
It’s one of the best-ever scores by a Romiley lady golfer, and Janet (and her fellow competitors, no doubt) was delighted to see her handicap drop to 33.2.
