Runcorn GC Charity Golf Day Raises £3,750 for Stick ‘n’ Step

Charity Golf Day Goes with a Swing!

More than £3,750 was raised for cerebral palsy charity Stick ‘n’ Step during a recent golf day at Runcorn Golf Club.

Stick ‘n’ Step is Runcorn Golf Club’s Captain’s Charity for 2024/25.

Captain Val Whitaker is particularly aware of the daily challenges faced by the children who attend Stick ‘n’ Step and their families, as one of her own family members has cerebral palsy.

In addition to the golf, the ladies’ section at Runcorn organised a coffee morning, tombolas, various stalls, and a delicious cake sale to help raise funds.

Stick ‘n’ Step fundraising manager, Jo Fowler, said: “We had an absolutely fantastic time at the Captain’s Charity Day at Runcorn Golf Club.

“Thanks to the club’s wonderful generosity, they raised an incredible £3,751.28 for Stick ‘n’ Step.

“This will help us provide genuinely life-changing support to children and young people with cerebral palsy across the region.

“We would like to thank everyone who took part, volunteered, and donated.”

Stick ‘n’ Step provides free weekly conductive education sessions to children and young people with cerebral palsy up to the age of 25.

These sessions help participants gain the skills they need to live more independent lives.

The charity relies on supporters and volunteers to raise the £750,000 required to deliver its services to over 100 families annually at its Wallasey and Runcorn centres.

Established more than 21 years ago, Stick ‘n’ Step aims to enable, inspire, and support children with cerebral palsy and their families.

The charity’s support improves mobility and independence, boosts self-confidence, and helps each child achieve their personal potential.

Stick ‘n’ Step’s conductive education sessions incorporate play and music into structured routines to develop functional skills.

Children are motivated by working alongside their peers in a positive environment and empowered to achieve realistic, specific, and relevant goals.

The charity receives no funding from statutory bodies and relies on the generosity of supporters, local communities, businesses, and grant providers.

Stick ‘n’ Step supports the whole family.

Regular attendance at the centres allows parents and extended family members to meet others in similar situations and benefit from regular respite time while their children develop in the classroom.
