Sandiway Golf Club Installs New Captains for the 2024/25 Season
Sandiway Golf Club has installed its three new captains for the 2024/25 season.
Ex-county hockey player, retired local government officer, and former member of Oswestry, Graham Sayers, a member of the prestigious Cheshire club for 35 years and sometime board member and chairman, ‘drove into office’ following his ‘learning curve’ year as vice-captain.
In 2022, after many years purely as a player, the 10-handicapper decided to ‘give something back’ and became a qualified referee.
He joined the Cheshire referees panel and also the Cheshire Course Rating team.
Janet Carter, for many years affectionately known in these pages as ‘the Cherubic Commandant’ in Graham Carter’s popular column piece, joined Sandiway in 2007 and has also diligently served in a number of committee roles.
Since retiring from her job as a quality manager, Janet has reduced her handicap to 18.
She takes on the captaincy determined, primarily, to uphold the club’s good name and status, both at home and away, and to raise as much money as possible for this year’s chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Society.
Both captains are looking forward to their own busy playing schedules and to supporting the members as a whole and the various teams as they represent the club throughout their term of office.
Finlay Waterhouse, 17, enjoyed an astonishing opening to his year as Sandiway’s junior captain by holing his tee shot on the 214-yard 11th!
Clearly, the big-hitting four-handicapper will be an asset to the team in the coming years.
