Inclusion Thrives at Trafford Golf Centre’s Women in Golf

At the UK’s busiest golf practice facility, women are shaping the future of the sport — both on and off the range.

From PGA coaching to club fitting and operations, Trafford Golf Centre and its partner American Golf Trafford are proving that golf is not just a game for everyone, but an industry where women can thrive and lead.

New Female Coaches Leading the Way

This September, Trafford Golf Centre welcomed Erin Parker as a new PGA Assistant.

She begins her PGA training alongside fellow trainee professional Sophie Mullarkey, marking another milestone in the venue’s commitment to developing female coaches.

Erin said:

“I’m so excited to be starting my PGA training at Trafford Golf Centre. It’s inspiring to be part of such a supportive team and to know I’ll be learning alongside other female coaches. My hope is that more girls and women see coaching as a real pathway into golf and the golf industry.”

Sophie echoed the sentiment:

“When I first started playing golf, I didn’t see many women in coaching roles, so it’s great to now be part of a team where that’s changing. Coaching here gives me the chance to help golfers of all levels improve and enjoy the game, and I hope that encourages more women and girls to give it a try too.”

Club Fitting and Inclusion Beyond the Range

Beyond coaching, female expertise continues to shine.

At American Golf’s flagship store at Trafford Golf Centre, club fitter Amy Sarjantson helps golfers of all abilities maximise their performance through custom equipment analysis — from swing speeds to shot characteristics.

Amy thinks:

“It’s great to be part of a team where women are visible in so many roles. Golf has changed a lot in recent years, and the more we can show different pathways into the industry, the more inclusive it becomes.”

Women’s involvement extends into the venue’s operations team too, which is now majority-female.

American Golf has seen its women’s product sales rise from 6% to 12% in the past year, supported by regular “Women & Golf” events and ambassador-led initiatives.

A Model for Growing Women in Golf at Trafford Golf Centre

Pete Styles, Director of Golf at Trafford Golf Centre, highlighted the significance of representation:

“Golf has long struggled with the perception that it’s a male-dominated sport, but our team tells a different story. From the Clubhouse to the coaching bays, our female team members are playing a vital role in shaping the customer experience and the future of the game.”

With more than 500,000 visitors annually and over 25,000 lessons delivered last year, Trafford Golf Centre continues to be a driving force in introducing new players to the game — including 80,000 first-time golfers.

By fostering a supportive environment for women at every level, the centre is helping to redefine what modern golf looks like in the UK.

As the wider industry strives to close participation and workforce gaps, Trafford Golf Centre stands as a model for how inclusion can begin locally — by ensuring women are visible, valued, and celebrated throughout the game.
