Hebridean Excellence

The award-winning Another Place, The Machrie has unveiled its 2026 calendar, designed to make its championship links more accessible to visiting golfers.
Ranked 78th in Golf World’s Top 100 Courses, the venue was recently named “Best Premium Hotel” at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.
Tailored Coaching Breaks
The resort has introduced two primary coaching tracks for 2026, both utilising resident PGA Professionals and TrackMan analysis.
- Learn to Play (April 8–11): Designed for beginners or returning golfers, focusing on grip, posture, and short-game fundamentals from £370pp.
- Advance Your Game (July 15–18): A performance-driven intensive covering full swing development and on-course strategy from £630pp.
The “Flying Visit” and Sea Links
In a boost for golfers with limited time, a partnership with Loganair offers a day-return experience directly from Glasgow.
Additionally, a new “Links Across the Water” package uses the Kintyre Express high-speed ferry to connect Islay with The Marine Hotel Ballycastle in Northern Ireland.
Official view
Golfers travel from all over the world to experience The Machrie because it offers something genuinely different. Set among the dunes on Islay’s Atlantic coast, it provides a true links challenge but is also immensely enjoyable to play.
“Our new breaks are designed to make that experience more accessible, whether someone is discovering links golf for the first time or looking to refine their game with the guidance of a PGA Professional.” — Alan Martin, Golf General Manager at The Machrie.
The Challenge: A Willie Campbell Legacy
How difficult is the course at The Machrie? Originally established in 1891 by Willie Campbell and later redesigned by DJ Russell, the course is a strategic masterpiece.
The Machrie championship links stretches more than 7,000 yards beside seven miles of Atlantic coastline.
Golfers must navigate towering dunes, revetted bunkers, and natural contours that earned the course a 60th-place ranking in the GB&I Top 100 X Factor Courses.
For those seeking a more relaxed round, the resort also features The Hebrides (a social putting course) and the six-hole par-three Wee Course.
