Bramall Park’s Jean Nield marks 90th after an incredible golf career
Jean Nield, a member of Bramall Park, and previously Chorlton, celebrated her 90th birthday in style at Bramall Park GC and with friends in Chorlton at her great friend Terri Tivenan’s house.
Jean, who has had an incredible 11 holes in one, joined Bramall Park in 1975, then left for Chorlton for 12 years before returning to the Stockport-based club in 1993 until 2015.
Remarkable golfing achievements
Jean’s husband Brian played golf and a good friend from tennis, Pauline Thorp, had taken up golf and recommended Jean take it up too.
Her other highlights included winning the Nahum Cup at Hopwood (Manchester) in 1991, Manchester and District Cup in 1978 at Ashton Under Lyne.
At Bramall Park Jean won The Chadwick Shield, Championship Cup, Singles Knockout, and Presidents Day and also won the Seddon trophy at Tytherington. She also played for the Cheshire Seniors and was Cheshire Senior captain.
Record-breaking husband and wife team
Jean received a letter from The Editor, Royal and Ancient Golfers Handbook, acknowledging her 11 holes in one and her husband’s five aces holes in one making a combined husband and wife team of 16 holes in one which was recorded on page 547 in the Golfer Handbook in 2002.

- 7th 1997 Rosemount GC in Blairgowrie Scotland in competition,
- 8th 1998 Bramall Park in competition,
- 9th 1998 Chorlton-cum-Hardy in competition,
- 10th 1998 Maesdu GC Llandudno Wales social golf,
- 11th 2002 Denham GC Buckinghamshire social golf.
