Mick Culliney’s Hole-in-One Brings Joy at Seniors Stableford Event
Didsbury member Mick Culliney has ended his long wait for an ace.
The 24-handicapper has played golf for more than 34 years and has been a member of the South Manchester-based club for 28 years.
Mick, who won Captain’s Day in 2015, finally struck a hole-in-one in a recent Seniors Stableford event.
It came on the sixth hole when his hybrid wood from the tee saw the ball fly into the like a guided missile into the hole to the shock and joy of his playing partners Sandy Jones and Terry Tobin.
The ace helped him to a modest 19 points from the 10-hole competition but led to plenty of bar action at the 19th hole to celebrate his feat.
Mick, whose golfing idol is Rory McIlroy, said: “It’s been a long wait for my first ace and the overwhelming feedback at the 19th was ‘Here’s to the next one’ led by Sandy and Terry!”
