Junior Golfers at North Wales Golf Club Raise Over £500 for Children in Need
Three junior members of North Wales Golf Club have raised more than £500 for Children in Need after completing a quirky fundraising challenge at their home club.
Huw Lloyd-Preston, Henry Steadman, and Jake Holland, all aged 11 and students at Ysgol Aberconwy, holed 1,000 putts on the club’s putting green one afternoon during their half-term school holiday.
The idea stemmed from a challenge by their school teacher to beat last year’s fundraising total of £350.
“Henry originally came up with the idea of holing 500 putts,” explained Huw, who lives in Deganwy. “Jake and I said we’d also like to be involved, so we upped the target to 1,000 putts.”
A Determined Effort
The boys tackled the challenge in sets of 10 putts, with their parents keeping track from the clubhouse. Each putt was over two feet in length, and the trio completed the task in just two and a half hours despite cold and wet weather.
“As parents, we’re all really proud of the boys for doing this,” said Huw’s mum, Lowri Lloyd-Preston. “It was cold and wet, but they stuck to it. To raise so much money for Children in Need is fantastic.”
Looking Ahead
The boys, who have demonstrated their passion for both golf and charitable giving, are already planning another golfing fundraiser for next year.
